It was a good day back with Carolyn. We woke up and went to breakfast and then walked over the Columbia River on the Bridge of the Gods. We saw a welcome to Washington sign and found ourselves suddenly devoid of Oregon! 500 miles to go.

The hiking was all uphill to get out of the gorge but it wasn’t too bad. We saw some neet views of Mt. Adams and St. Helen and Hood up on the ridge.

The forest here is dense with lush green ferns and curly moss that grows on everything. The air is thick with moisture from the streams that run through deep gullies. I imagine this forest to be from the prehistoric era, when dinosaurs ruled the earth and strange fish the size of a cruise ship meandered through the oceans. It is a timeless place where it is always dusk no matter the day light hour, and blacker than a dull piece of obsidian during the night.

I’m sure there are many locked away secrets here that no one will ever discover, like a chest with gold that pirates bury deep within the earth and leave a riddle behind to mark its place.
