PCT: Day 124

August 22nd, 2016

Miles Hiked: 29

Start Location: Mile 1999

End Location: Mile 2028

End Location GPS: 44.68648, -121.83915

We got up around 7 at the creek side campground and I packed up my things. We stopped at McDonalds on the way back up to Santiem Pass and it reminded me that the McDonalds at Cajon pass right on the PCT in Southern California had recently burnt to the ground due to a raging forest fire. I said my condolences privately as a crammed two egg McMuffins and hash browns eagerly down my throat.

We got to the pass around 9:30 and I started off again into the woods by myself after thanking Qball for all the help he had given Carolyn and I over the past few days.

There was a chill in the air even in the sun’s light and it felt nice to hike in cooler temperatures. I stopped at a pond where I saw old trail friends Rusty and Lisa who I haven’t seen in months.

I pushed hard to get to this campsite at 2028 for whatever reason. It’s boring out here by myself so hiking far is the only way to really combat that. Everything reminds me of Carolyn and I can’t wait for her to rejoin me.

I passed about 20 hikers today- not kidding. I had a hard time finding a campsite because by 6 it seems everyone is stops. So if you hike to 7:30 you get to a campsite and there is no room anymore because everyone and their mother is already there. Im so sick of this garbage and I’m really getting sick of the trail. It’s the same experience over and over again with a crowd of other people that never seems to thin out.

It’s supped to be really cold tonight, like below freezing. I hope my quilt is warm enough. It probably won’t be. Going to try and hike as far as possible tommorrow to get this crap over with.

I’m in bad mood but Mt. Jefferson today was pretty neat.

On a side note someone wrote a cool thank you in the PCT Facebook group about the events that happened the other day concerning the woman who fell off her horse. We were dubbed PCT Heros of the Week! Hopefully there is a badge or medal involved…Ill have to wait to find out.
