4Rivers: Day 7

Daily Miles: 41

Total Miles: 250

Start Location: Bird Sanctuary

End Location: Weagwan-eup

The sky was grey and cloudy when we woke up this morning, but the air wasn’t cold and the riding was actually pretty decent. The forecast called for rain around noon so we started riding early to take advantage of the dry morning weather.

We passed through more farmland along the river and a lot of cherry blossoms blooming along the path. There is a lot of farmland here, and it seems like a lot of it is done by hand. People are out there in the fields bent over working the land into tiny rows to grow all sorts of things. It looks like hard work. The people in the country are tough and strong. Their faces are tan and wrinkled from the sun, which is in stark contrast to company men and women in the city, whose faces are smooth and pale from time spent inside, working in a building and living in a tall apartment hig rise. I suppose it’s no different than the United States.

We arrived in a city called Gumi around noon just as it started sprinkling. There is a large LG factory here and we could see it across the river. We stopped at a plaza for lunch and had some pizza. It was small but good. The portion sizes here overall are small, which would be fine except we are cycle touring and burning a bunch of calories, and our appatities are pretty ravenouse.

After pizza we cycled for a few more miles along the river into a strong headwind. We stopped for the day in a small town called Weagean-eup and are staying at a love motel. These are cheap accomodations for couples apparently. We opted for the VIP suite and we have a pretty large room for the night. It is customary in Korea for the motel to give you a tooth brush and razor, and this motel actually gave us a small pouch of some extra items, including several condoms and a small pouch of message oil. It was wierd to say the least…but the room is actually really nice and would probably be 3 times as much  money in the States.

It is raining hard outside and I’m glad we are inside. The weather is actually suppose to clear up tomorrow morning so we should be good on our ride tommorrow. There is only a little over 100 miles left of the route and we should be in Busan in about 3 days.

Pretty Korea
Some guys were racing RC cars in this track in the park

Shower curtains aren’t a thing here. Instead there is just a drain in the center of the bathroom. You are supposed to wear these rubber slippers in the bathroom.
