Another long day for us through dense forest. There was a constant humming in the air, an electric hissing orchestrated by tiny mosquitos and flies and bees. The forest seemed almost ready to burst with the amount of static energy being stored. Of course all o fthese flying insects were a nuisance for us. Mosquitos bite. Flies are annoying. And bees sting if provoked.

It was very hot today- too hot. It reminded us of our days in the desert. We thought those good times were all but a fond memory at this point but we were terribly mistaken. To make things more interesting we had to climb over 3k feet over a 6 mile stretch- similar to what we did two days ago. It was a scorching and sweaty ascent as we meandered along the sides of mountains that never seemed to have an apex.

We eventually crested the top and had the first views of the day. Trees blanketed the mountains as far as the eye could see, dark green, almost black, as they all created one cohesive mass of rolling evergreen. I wondered what this strange in-between land was called. Was it still the Sierra or were we now in the Cascades? Too soon for that. It is almost a no mans land, devoid of name but bursting with hidden and robust personality. It’s a nice change of pace, if anything.

The hissing continues as we lay in the tent. The micro mosquitos are trying to get in but aren’t having any luck. Sleep will come easy tonight for us. 50 miles in two days will do that.

Whoa!
