Woke up early and saw the mountain across the lake illuminate as the sun crested the morning sky. The first part of the day was spent climbing Dick’s Pass at 9,400. Suprisingly there was a lot of snow comming down on the north side, but it wasn’t too bad.

We had lunch at a pleasent alpine lake and watched the water move with the gusty wind. It swayed in bands of swirls and the ripples reflected the sunlight orchestrating a sparkle show on the lake surface.

We ran into our friend Smiles and walked and chatted with him for around an hour. He is also from Ohio and we have been seeing him on and off since early on in the trip.

We are camped in a half bog and half meadow. It isn’t great. The mosquitos brought their army and are singing their war song. They are out in droves and I’m happy to be safe in the tent.
