PCT: Day 73

July 2nd, 2016

Zero Day in Arnold, CA

We had a lovely day at chalet Biocini. It started off leisurely with a wonderful egg scramble and coffe. Soon after the power went out, but since the refrigerator wasn’t working to begin with, all the food and beer were kept nice and cold via coolers and ice chests.

I had to do a few errands in town, so Danny drove me to the hardware store and grocery store. I waltzed the aisles of Ace Hardware in the dark, searching for Gorilla glue and tape to fix my shoes. My shoes are falling apart, by the way, which is unfortunate since they havnt been on my feet very long. I ordered some new shoes and shipped them to south Lake Tahoe, which is two days walking from where we got off.

Later in the afternoon Danny and Gina’s friends arrived for the night. We went down to the lake and went swimming, floating on rafts and drinking beer in the lazy afternoon sun.

Later in the night we went to the fireworks display at a nearby lake. They weren’t great. It consisted of a small boat letting off low sparkler like fireworks without any big bangers exploding in the sky. I hope for USA’s sake it was due in part by a fire ban- but in all honesty it was the worst display of fireworks I have ever experienced.

It was a perfect day off trail- full of food and laughs and fun.
