Easy day going mostly downhill to Reds Meadow, a small general store and restaurant where you can also pick up a shuttle to Mammoth Lakes. There were a lot of day tourists milling about once we got there, and I felt pretty gross and out of place on the bus sitting next to clean shaven and showered people, neatly pressed jeans and perfume and shampoo permeating the space like a concoction out of the beauty aisle in a Macy’s department store.
When we got to town every modestly priced accomodation (Motel 6, Travelodge, etc) was booked on account of a Moto Cross event and a marathon. This seems to happen to us often. As a result, we splurged on the only thing we could find that wasn’t the hostel, which was a private suite with king bed, living room and full kitchen at the Holiday House. It really is quite lovely. We will zero tommorrow and rest up before heading out back on the trail.
