PCT: Day 48

June 7th, 2016

Miles Hiked: 22 + 2

Total Miles: 664

Start Location: Horshoe Meadow to Trail Pass at Mile 744

End Location: Mile 766 Crabtree Meadow

Beautiful but long day. The views were incredible of granite mountain snowy peaks and meadows and rivers. It’s already after 9 and way past my bedtime, so this will be a short entry. We are staged to do the out and back of Mt. Whitney tommorrow. It is the tallest mountain in the lower 48 states, beating Elbert, the tallest mountain in Colorado by only a few feet.

The peak doesn’t look as snowy as I thought, but we are still far away. To get to the summit tommorrow we will walk about 8.5 miles and gain over 4000k feet.

I was in this very spot about 12 years ago on my very first backpacking trip with my father and my high school friends. It is strange after so many years I am back here, like I went in a big large complicated circle to get here. Perhaps in 12 more years I’ll be back here again. It just goes to show that you never know what will happen and where you may end up.
