Start Location: Cameron Road Mile 566

End Location: ?

Not our best day on the trail. In fact, it saddens me to say it will probably be Carolyn’s last day. She is having a tough time and feels it may be better to call it quits than to keep being unhappy out here. We had a long discussion around mile 4 of the day and almost turned around but she insisted on going more.

Unfortunately, shortly after, I had developed a rip in the compression portion of my running shorts and had developed a cut and severe chaffing on the inside of my leg. I have large upper legs and compression shorts are the only things that work for me against chaffing. We sat for a while determining if we should just go back to town and get some new shorts. I thought if I removed the compression liner I would at least be able to make it 80 miles more to the next town stop. After having cut out the liner, we walked a few more miles and my chaffing was just getting worse, even after applying some lubricant to the areas. It was apparent that it would be smarter to cut our losses mileage wise and just turn around and go back to town tomorrow. We were about 7 miles in for the day.

We are camped about 4 miles away from the road and into town tonight. Carolyn thinks this is a sign for her to get off the trail. I’m really sad that she isn’t having fun out here and wants to leave. We have had some really amazing moments out on the trail and I want them to continue. But if your not having a good time then your not having a good time- and I understand that.

I love my wife more than the world itself and I’m so proud of her for all she has accomplished on this trip. It is just hard and sad to see her frustrated and unhappy. I wish I could do more but I’m not sure what more I can do.

Feeling tired and sad. ?
