Made it to Highway 2 after a long 6 day stretch from Big Bear. Got a hitch in literally 5 minutes of standing by the road from a young couple taking a scenic drive through the mountains. They drove a white sporty Mercedes Benz and he had a lead foot, speeding down the mountain and taking turns like a NASCAR driver. After spending 6 days going 2 miles per hour, speeding down the pass at 75 In a 50 zone was bananas.

We are staying at the Pines Hotel tonight. I called from the trail and made a reservation and glad I did. They were all booked up by the time we got to town- around 4. This hotel is popular because it is the only place in town for hikers to do laundry, which we needed done badly. My socks were so dirty and sweaty they took on a shape of a foot without any feet in them, and were able to stand, full form, on their own accord. And don’t forget the smell, ugh, I will spare the details.

We got some good veggie burgers, salads and fries at the Grizzly Cafe. We will leave town late tommorrow and hike a half day towards our next stop, Agua Dulce, in about 85 miles.

Time to sleep in a bed!
