The wind was fierce again as we climbed slowly into the San Filipe Hills. The wind is definitely getting old out here. It must be an opposite desert around these parts because all its been lately is cloudy and cold.

The sun did come out later in the day, however, and it was good hiking in the afternoon. I’m really amazed by the diversity of all the plants out here. It seems as if all the cacti are blooming in unison. They have beautiful varied flowers from soft yellows to deep reds and they really pop in the right sunlight.

We are camped tonight overlooking a valley eastward. Clouds rapidly traverse the pale salmon sky and quickly wisp away into the atmosphere. The tent shakes in the still stiff wind, but it’s not nearly as bad as before, and I’m sure sleep will come more easily tonight.

We are shooting to reach the small town of Warner Springs tomorrow. We have a resupply box waiting for us at the post office.

I’m feeling good out here on the trail. It’s like comming back to a familiar place, one that you haven’t seen for a long time but missed dearly. I am grateful for the opportunity to be out here.
