Camino Norte: Day 11

May 14th, 2017

Camping de Loredo to Camping de Santillana

Km walked: 32

Km total: 295

It was a long, boring and frustrating day walking. It was all paved highway walking through some of the most monotonous scenery of the whole trip. We even passed by a large power plant- smoke stacks and all. My legs and feet are really sore tonight. Walking on paved surfaces for long periods of time is tough on the feet, even though the walking is relatively fast and easy.

We are at another campsite tonight. We got here a little late. We didn’t really get walking until after 10 AM because the ferry didn’t start until 9:55. We still managed about 20 miles which was pretty good.

This is going to be short tonight- I’m quite tired. Hopefully tomorrow offers a little more. This trail is turning into a pointless chore, which is sad. There is so much potential here. Unfortunately it is unrealized and will likely remain so. The path has been established for such a long time and it will never change unfortunately. At one point I bet there were hardly any paved roads at all. I’m probably at least 100 years too late.

We managed to do laundry tonight and my clothes are nice and clean. This was the best part of the day

Early morning walk to the ferry
The ferry to Santander
Walking through Santander
A large organized bike ride went past us as we ate lunch with at least a few hundred cyclists
Can’t get more boring than this
Buen Camino!
