Flying Fail

April 20th, 2016

The day started out good enough. We slept in, had a good breakfast, and then slowly started getting our things ready for a 4:45 PM flight out of Bradley International in Hartford, CT to San Diego via a connection in New Jersey. We had a great lunch on our way to the airport with my parents and were then dropped off at the airport after saying final goodbyes. My mom asked me when she would see us again, and I replied sometime in October most likely.

We checked in one bag and then proceeded effortlessly through a no wait line at security. We got to our gate and patiently waited. I checked the flight status and there was a 30 minute delay. That’s okay, I thought, we had a two hour lay over.

After another 15 minutes I checked the status. The flight was now delayed 45 minutes. Uh oh. In another 15 minutes, the flight was delayed an hour. I think you can see where this post is going.

Eventually it was a two hour delay and there was no way to get to New Jersy to make the connection. Great. I don’t get aggravated or angry at mostly anything except when something breaks on my car, when I have to pay an unexpected epxense, and as I learned today, getting my flight canceled.

Long story short: We are still in Massachusettes. Our replacement flight is now tomorrow morning. So…this was the flying fail, and I learned two things: one, when things go too smoothly during travel it’s only a matter of time until shit hits the fan; and two, when someone asks you when they will see you next when you go traveling with no end date, you never really know how soon that will be- it may end up being only a few hours!

We’ll get to then PCT sometime. Just not today. Patience is a virtue.
