ST: Day 42

Daily Miles: 103

Total Miles: 2244

Avg: 13.9

Max: 27.3

Time on the bike: 07:25:18

Today was my first 100 mile day. It wasn’t planned. I got to what was supposed to be a campsite to find an old abandoned campground only a quarter mile from the Mexican border. It was once a campsite but not anymore. I was really upset. It had already been a long 88 mile day up to that point, with a side trip to the store to buy some bottled water on account of my water blatter being dead and a note saying there was no running water at the campsite.

I stared at the locked gate and the barbed wire fencing and almost cried. I looked at my maps to see what plan B was. The next town was about 12 miles away. They didn’t have a campground but there was a cheap motel option. Off I went again to find the motel and break the century mark.

The day had been going really well up until that point, which made the new development pretty sour. The day was cool but the sun was out and the wind was nonexistent. I was on a service road that paralleled interstate 10 much of the day. There was a 9 mile stretch that actually had me riding on the interstate, which was…interesting. I was nervous about this stretch yesterday but it turned out to be alright. The shoulders on the highway are super wide and the traffic wasnt going any faster than the cars on highway 90.

I’m at the hotel and I’m fully beat. On the up side I’m less than 30 miles from El Paso so it will be a short day tommorrow. I set up a warm showers stay and that will be cool. I haven’t done one of those in a while.
