ST: Day 2

Near Florahome to Gainnesville, FL

Daily Mileage: 45 Miles

Total Mileage: 110 Miles

I had a good night sleep minus the traffic by the road near me. Something I will need to get used to.

I followed the bike path for awhile until a town called Putnam Hall, where I hung a left and followed a busy road for 8 miles with a few good hills and then another left on a very quiet country road. These are the best roads- virtually no traffic and very quiet. I passed by some farms and houses and cows until I reached highway 200/301, which was scary at first sight but ended up being okay due to a very wide and generous shoulder lane.

The latter part of the day was great riding on another bike trail which brought me into the large city of Gainesville. I’m staying at a hostel here called Zen Hostel to get out of the outside for the evening. There is some hard rain and thunderstorms passing through the night so it will be nice to stay dry.

I’m lukewarm with bike touring so far. There have been some pretty areas but everything has been pretty “meh”. I mainly dislike riding in traffic a lot of the time, but what can you do. You also need to plan your days out quite a bit. It’s not like backpacking where you can literally just hike until your tired and set up the tent wherever you want.

I’ll try for another 50 miles tommorrow to get to a State Park where I can camp out.

My butt is very sore tonight. It is like the blister equivalent of hiking. You Just have to push through it until it doesn’t hurt anymore. Sounds fun, right?

  1. Hey Dom! Google sent me a “link to a post I may like” of one of your PCT videos (awesome, sat down with the kids this morning and watched them all) then checked in to your site here and found you on another adventure. I hope you enjoy the high speed version of your trail spirit. Keep persevering and we will be watching from NW Ohio.
